Chinese Drywall Lawsuit

Darren Inverso, Esq. of Norton, Hammersley, Lopez & Skokos, P.A., recently filed a class-action lawsuit in Florida against Taylor Morrison Homes, Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co. Ltd., Knauf Gips, KG, Gebr Knauf, USG Corporation, L&W Supply Corporation, Seacoast Supply, Banner Supply Company and Rothchilt International Ltd. concerning defective Chinese drywall used in the construction of Florida homes built between 2004 and 2006.

How To Determine If Your Home Has Drywall From China

The Florida Department of Health has recently issued a Case Definition for Premature Copper Corrosion in Residences Possibly Associated with the Presence of Imported Drywall from China.  To meet the current Case Definition homes constructed after 2003 (2004 to present) must meet two or more conditions; and those built between 2000 and 2003 must meet three or more of the conditions specified below.

1. There is presence of sulfur-like or other unusual odors (rotten egg smell);

2. Confirmed presence of Chinese-manufactured drywall in the home;

3. Observed copper corrosion, indicated by black, sooty coating of un-insulated copper pipe leading to the air handling unit present in the garage or mechanical closet of home;

4. Documented failure of air conditioner evaporator coil (located inside the air handling unit); and/or

5. Confirmation by an outside expert or professional for the presence of premature copper corrosion on un-insulated copper wires and/or air conditioner evaporator coils (inside the air handling unit).

If your Florida property meets with the conditions specified above, your property may have been built using defective drywall manufactured in China by Knauf. This drywall was imported into the United States and used by builders during a shortage of American-made drywall caused by the construction boom in 2005-2006.

Complaints have been raised by hundreds of affected property owners throughout Florida concerning this defective drywall.  Darren Inverso continues to investigate this matter, and we want to hear from people with information about the defective drywall and help those impacted by it.
